A RESOLUTION

Congratulating Homer-Center High School, Homer City, upon its

2

recognition as a 2008 No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon

3

School.

4

WHEREAS, At an awards ceremony in Washington, DC, on October

5

21, 2008, the Federal Department of Education recognized 230

6

schools in the nation as 2008 No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon

7

Schools; and

8

WHEREAS, Homer-Center High School was one of these schools,

9

an achievement signifying the high level of academic success its

10

students have reached through significant progress in testing

11

scores and program initiatives; and

12

WHEREAS, Homer-Center High School was one of only 12 schools

13

and three high schools to make a presentation during the awards

14

ceremony, presenting the "Scheduling for Success" program it

initiated during the 2001-2002 school year and has used since

2

then with increasing success; and

3

WHEREAS, "Scheduling for Success" recognized the value of

4

good nutrition, and a free breakfast program was made available

5

to all students; and

6

WHEREAS, In addition, the homeroom system was redesigned to

7

create remedial mathematics and remedial reading opportunities,

8

with students assigned to homerooms based upon their

9

Pennsylvania System of School Assessment test scores; and

10

WHEREAS, Homer-Center High School was one of only 12 schools

11

in this Commonwealth to be honored this year as a Blue Ribbon

12

school; therefore be it

13

RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate

14

Homer-Center High School, Homer City, upon its recognition as a

15

2008 No Child Left Behind - Blue Ribbon school.
