AN ACT

Amending Title 61 (Prisons and Parole) of the Pennsylvania

2

Consolidated Statutes, providing for salary of corrections

3

managers.

The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania

5

hereby enacts as follows:

6

Section 1.  Section 102 of Title 61 of the Pennsylvania

7

Consolidated Statutes is amended by adding a definition to read:

8

§ 102.  Definitions.

9

The following words and phrases when used in this title shall

10

have the meanings given to them in this section unless the

11

context clearly indicates otherwise:

"Corrections manager."  A superintendent, deputy

14

superintendent, major of the guard, captain or lieutenant who

15

supervises or administers security and custodial activities at

16

the institutional or agency level.

Section 2.  Title 61 is amended by adding a section to read:

§ 1101.1.  Salary of corrections managers.

4

(a)  Pay scale consolidation.--

5

(1)  The following positions shall be placed and shall

6

remain in the same pay scale type:

7

(i)  Corrections managers and all positions within

8

the department of the same pay scale type as corrections

9

managers on July 1, 2009.

10

(ii)  All positions within the department of the same

11

pay scale type as corrections officers on July 1, 2009.

(2)  In combining pay scale types under this subsection,

13

at each step of the pay scale:

14

(i)  the pay rate for lieutenant shall not be less

15

than 14% above the pay rate of a sergeant having the same

16

longevity;

17

(ii)  the pay rate for captain shall not be less than

18

14% above the pay rate of a lieutenant having the same

19

longevity; and

20

(iii)  the pay rate for major shall not be less than

21

14% above the pay rate of a captain having the same

22

longevity.

(b)  Salary increases.--Corrections managers and all other

24

nonunion positions within the department of the same pay scale

25

type as corrections managers shall receive not less than the

26

same annual percentage salary and fringe benefit increase as and

27

when received by the highest ranking corrections officer

28

participating in collective bargaining.

Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 2010, or

30

immediately, whichever is later.
