AN ACT 1 Designating Long Pond Road in Tunkhannock Township, Monroe 2 County, from the intersection with SR 115 eastward to the 3 intersection with Stony Hollow Road, as Dr. Joseph Mattioli 4 and Dr. Rose Mattioli Drive. 5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 6 hereby enacts as follows: 7 Section 1. Dr. Joseph Mattioli and Dr. Rose Mattioli Drive. 8 (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds as follows: 9 (1) Dr. Joseph Mattioli and his wife, Dr. Rose Mattioli, 10 have owned and operated Pocono Raceway since 1968. 11 (2) The Mattioli family and Pocono Raceway have played 12 an integral role in the evolution of the National Association 13 for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) as a major national 14 spectator sport. 15 (3) Pocono Raceway is one of only three family-owned 16 racetracks left on the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series circuit. 17 (4) Pocono Raceway has hosted two NASCAR Nextel Cup 18 Series races every season since 1982, the Pennsylvania 500
1 and the Pocono 500, providing a lasting and positive economic 2 impact on the Pocono region and this Commonwealth. 3 (5) Pennsylvania is home to one of the two largest 4 NASCAR fan bases in the nation. The growth of that fan base 5 is due in large part to the presence of the Pocono Raceway. 6 (b) Designation.--Long Pond Road in Tunkhannock Township, 7 Monroe County, from the intersection with SR 115 eastward to the 8 intersection with Stony Hollow Road is hereby designated as Dr. 9 Joseph Mattioli and Dr. Rose Mattioli Drive in honor of Dr. 10 Joseph Mattioli, his wife, Dr. Rose Mattioli, and their family, 11 owners and operators of the Pocono Raceway. 12 (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and 13 maintain appropriate signs to indicate the designation under 14 subsection (b) at each end of the designated portion of the 15 road. 16 Section 2.
