AN ACT
1 Designating the section of State Route 219 that is situated in
2 Somerset County as the Flight 93 Memorial Highway.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. Findings.
6 The General Assembly finds and declares that on September 11,
7 2001, the United States suffered the worst terrorist attack in
8 the nation's history. The attacks of September 11 reached the
9 Commonwealth of Pennsylvania when one of the planes hijacked in
10 the attack, United Airlines, Flight 93, crashed in Shanksville,
11 Somerset County, as the flight's passengers and crew attempted
12 to overtake the hijackers. Neither the heroism of the passengers
13 and crew on Flight 93, who selflessly gave their lives trying to
14 regain control of the plane to avert further destruction, nor
15 the compassion and the professionalism of the State and local
16 emergency service personnel who responded to the crash should
1 ever be forgotten.
2 Section 2. Flight 93 Memorial Highway.
3 State Route 219 located in Somerset County is hereby
4 designated as the Flight 93 Memorial Highway.
5 Section 3. Signs.
6 The Department of Transportation shall erect and maintain
7 appropriate signs to indicate this designation.
8 Section 4. Effective date.
9 This act shall take effect in 60 days.
