        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           NOVEMBER 12, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association on the
     2     100th anniversary of its founding.

     3     WHEREAS, The Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association was
     4  organized in 1893 and incorporated in 1908 to fight fires and
     5  protect property in the Borough of Swarthmore; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association is
     7  comprised of many volunteers who serve the Borough of Swarthmore
     8  and its surrounding communities through the fire department and
     9  emergency medical services; and
    10     WHEREAS, In April 1999, a new era for the Swarthmore Fire and
    11  Protective Association began with the start of basic life
    12  support emergency medical services; and
    13     WHEREAS, The Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association

     1  responds to more than 500 emergency calls a year; and
     2     WHEREAS, The Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association is
     3  possibly the only organization in the country to have a fire
     4  horn instead of an aerial siren as a way to notify its members
     5  of a fire call; therefore be it
     6     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the
     7  Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association on the 100th
     8  anniversary of its founding; and be it further
     9     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    10  the Swarthmore Fire and Protective Association.
