INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JUNE 20, 2008
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of June 20 through 28, 2008, as "Civil Air 2 Patrol Cadet Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The Civil Air Patrol was established in 1941 as the 4 official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force; and 5 WHEREAS, The Civil Air Patrol is an all-volunteer force 6 comprised of more than 56,000 members nationwide and 2,500 7 members in the Pennsylvania Wing of the Civil Air Patrol; and 8 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Wing is a noncombatant resource of 9 the Air Force, performing three primary missions -- Emergency 10 Services, Aerospace Education and Cadet Programs; and 11 WHEREAS, Emergency Services include air search and rescue 12 missions, homeland security, disaster relief, counter-drug 13 missions, aerial reconnaissance and imaging support and
1 communications support at the request of Federal, State and 2 local agencies; and 3 WHEREAS, The Civil Air Patrol takes a leading role in 4 Aerospace Education by attracting youths to aviation and space- 5 related career fields, which is critical to our nation's 6 continued progress in aeronautics and astronautics; and 7 WHEREAS, The Civil Air Patrol provides numerous development 8 opportunities and educational activities to youths in our 9 schools and communities; and 10 WHEREAS, The Civil Air Patrol builds strong citizens for the 11 future by providing leadership training, technical education, 12 scholarships and career education to young men and women, ages 13 12 to 21; and 14 WHEREAS, The Civil Air Patrol works with local Air Force, Air 15 Guard and military installations to familiarize young people 16 about the advantages of military service; and 17 WHEREAS, Civil Air Patrol members serve as mentors to the 18 nearly 22,000 youths nationwide who participate in cadet 19 programs which provide leadership training, career motivation 20 and flight instruction; and 21 WHEREAS, The Cadet Leadership School of the Pennsylvania Wing 22 runs from June 20 through 28, 2008, at the Fort Indiantown Gap 23 National Guard Training Site in Lebanon County; and 24 WHEREAS, The cadet leadership schools annually provide 25 approximately 425 cadets the knowledge and training necessary to 26 function as a cadet leader in the Civil Air Patrol, serve in 27 various leadership roles within their squadron, group and wing 28 and become a part of a prequalified and motivated pool of future 29 community and military leaders; and 30 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania Wing Cadets have proven track records 20080H0813R4010 - 2 -
1 of becoming tomorrow's leaders, with a large number receiving 2 educational and scholarship opportunities in the Air Force 3 Academy, West Point and Annapolis; therefore be it 4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the 5 week of June 20 through 28, 2008, as "Civil Air Patrol Cadet 6 Week" in Pennsylvania.
