INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, JUNE 20, 2008
A RESOLUTION 1 Congratulating the YWCA of Northcentral Pennsylvania on the 2 115th anniversary of its founding and the 80th anniversary of 3 the original cornerstone ceremony of the YWCA facility 4 located in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. 5 WHEREAS, The YWCA of Northcentral Pennsylvania has proudly 6 served the citizens of Lycoming and surrounding counties since 7 1893; and 8 WHEREAS, The YWCA's mission is the elimination of racism and 9 the empowerment of women; and 10 WHEREAS, The YWCA's vision is for peace, justice, freedom and 11 dignity for all people; and 12 WHEREAS, The YWCA has constantly changed its programming to 13 meet the community's needs; and 14 WHEREAS, The YWCA's current vital programming includes:
1 (1) Wise Options, a comprehensive center for victims of 2 domestic violence, sexual assault and other major crimes; 3 (2) a warm water pool with therapeutic properties for 4 healing individuals suffering from joint and muscle disease 5 and ailments; 6 (3) prevention education on the dangers of drugs, 7 alcohol and tobacco; 8 (4) Liberty House, a homeless shelter for women with 9 children and single women who want a hand up, not a handout; 10 and 11 (5) Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) whose 12 mission is to find a safe, permanent and loving home for 13 abused and neglected children; 14 and 15 WHEREAS, The YMCA programs literally save lives; and 16 WHEREAS, A succession of dedicated leaders and members has 17 made the immeasurable contributions to the welfare of the 18 community possible, keeping ever mindful of the organization's 19 noble goals and principles; therefore be it 20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives congratulate the 21 YMCA of Northcentral Pennsylvania upon the joyous celebration of 22 the opening of its building cornerstone on the 115th anniversary 23 of its founding, express gratitude for its invaluable service to 24 the communities it serves and thus to this entire Commonwealth 25 and offer best wishes for the continuation of its worthy 26 endeavors in the years to come; and be it further 27 RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to 28 the YWCA of Northcentral PA, 815 West Fourth Street, 29 Williamsport, PA 17701.
