        INTRODUCED BY CONKLIN, HARKINS, BRENNAN, CALTAGIRONE, GALLOWAY,
           FRANKEL, GIBBONS, SAINATO, MILLARD, PALLONE, MANTZ, SWANGER,
           McILVAINE SMITH, PASHINSKI, READSHAW, DONATUCCI, JAMES,
           PAYNE, GEORGE, HARHART, FREEMAN, MURT, MOYER AND GOODMAN,
           MAY 6, 2008

        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MAY 6, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing May 8 and 9, 2008, as "Statewide Ride-a-Long Days"
     2     in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, By proclamation, the House of Representatives has
     4  recognized the week of May 5 through 10, 2008, as "Building
     5  Safety Week" in Pennsylvania; and
     6     WHEREAS, "Building Safety Week" was developed to promote the
     7  use and understanding of construction and building codes; and
     8     WHEREAS, The importance of regulating and enforcing building
     9  codes is often overlooked until a catastrophe occurs; and
    10     WHEREAS, Inspecting buildings during and after construction
    11  helps to ensure that buildings in the community are safe; and
    12     WHEREAS, Through the efforts of the International Code
    13  Council (ICC), the Pennsylvania Association of Building Code
    14  Officials (PABCO) and all of the ICC chapters in this
    15  Commonwealth, all jurisdictions and third-party agencies that
    16  administer and enforce the Uniform Construction Code are

     1  undertaking special efforts to recognize the seriousness of
     2  protecting the lives and safety of all citizens of this
     3  Commonwealth through proper enforcement of building and fire-
     4  related codes in homes and places of work; and
     5     WHEREAS, PABCO has designated May 8 and 9, 2008, as
     6  "Statewide Ride-a-Long Days"; and
     7     WHEREAS, State senators and representatives will "ride along"
     8  with municipal and third-party code officials as they perform
     9  code enforcement duties in their communities on these two days;
    10  and
    11     WHEREAS, PABCO is providing elected officials and code
    12  officials a unique opportunity to discuss the challenges and
    13  successes of code enforcement activities which will benefit
    14  everyone; therefore be it
    15     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize May 8
    16  and 9, 2008, as "Statewide Ride-a-Long Days" in Pennsylvania.
