        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 12, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring March 2008 as "Irish American Heritage Month" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, On March 17, 2008, the Irish community in this
     4  Commonwealth will celebrate the occasion of the feast of the
     5  glorious Apostle of Ireland, Saint Patrick; and
     6     WHEREAS, "St. Patrick, Bless All Those Serving the People of
     7  God" is the theme of the 2008 St. Patrick's Day Parade in
     8  Philadelphia; and
     9     WHEREAS, Fleeing political, religious and racial persecution
    10  in their homeland, Irish immigrants arrived on our shores
    11  penniless and unwanted, yet filled with hope that America held a


     1  future in which they and their children would enjoy the
     2  bountiful fruits of a nation founded upon the principles of
     3  liberty and justice for all; and
     4     WHEREAS, In every phase of our national history, Irish
     5  Americans have taken their place at the forefront in the
     6  political, economic, religious, social and artistic fields; and
     7     WHEREAS, Their contribution to the good and welfare of this
     8  Commonwealth is immeasurable and unflinching; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare March
    10  2008 to be "Irish American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania and
    11  extend its felicitations and best wishes to the Irish community
    12  in this Commonwealth on this momentous occasion; and be it
    13  further
    14     RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the
    15  Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern T.D., Upper Merrion Street, Dublin,
    16  Ireland, and Michael J. Bradley, Jr, St. Patrick's Day
    17  Observance Association, P.O. Box 32158, Philadelphia,
    18  Pennsylvania 19146.
