        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 10, 2008

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the month of April 2008 as "Outdoor Heritage Month
     2     in the Pennsylvania Alleghenies."

     3     WHEREAS, Concern for the sustainability of natural resources,
     4  global climate change, habitat conservation and pollution
     5  reduction is increasing and causing a movement in "going green";
     6  and
     7     WHEREAS, This Commonwealth is a large contributor of many
     8  factors affecting environmental conditions worldwide; and
     9     WHEREAS, Youth are spending more time with technological
    10  devices and less time exploring nature; and
    11     WHEREAS, Citizens of this Commonwealth have learned through
    12  trial and error and continue to develop the means for
    13  sustainability of natural resources; and

     1     WHEREAS, Community organizations, agencies and citizens, led
     2  by Natural Biodiversity and the Kiski-Conemaugh Stream Team,
     3  have come together to recognize the rich outdoor heritage in the
     4  Pennsylvania Alleghenies; and
     5     WHEREAS, The collaborative efforts of these citizens have
     6  resulted in numerous environmental service and learning
     7  opportunities in the Pennsylvania Alleghenies; and
     8     WHEREAS, The aim of these coordinated activities is to
     9  educate and inspire the next generation of citizens of this
    10  Commonwealth to conserve and enjoy Pennsylvania's vast natural
    11  resources; and
    12     WHEREAS, Earth Day, National Arbor Day, National Wildlife
    13  Week and Global and National Youth Service Days occur during
    14  April; and
    15     WHEREAS, Children, the future leaders of this Commonwealth,
    16  will not only recognize that stewardship can be coupled with
    17  economic vitality, but also realize that these two values must
    18  coincide in order to sustain and enhance the quality of life for
    19  all persons in this Commonwealth and beyond; and
    20     WHEREAS, All citizens of this Commonwealth should be
    21  encouraged to participate in the educational and service
    22  activities occurring in the Pennsylvania Alleghenies and to
    23  acknowledge and celebrate the achievements of all persons who,
    24  working together, recognize, hone and preserve this heritage in
    25  this Commonwealth; therefore be it
    26     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
    27  month of April 2008 as "Outdoor Heritage Month in the
    28  Pennsylvania Alleghenies."
