INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, DECEMBER 6, 2007
A RESOLUTION 1 Requesting citizens to honor the workers of this Commonwealth by 2 buying American-made products. 3 WHEREAS, This Commonwealth has a long and proud tradition of 4 manufacturing; and 5 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's workers have produced steel for the 6 tallest buildings and the mightiest warships and for innovative 7 toys, such as the Slinky; and 8 WHEREAS, These jobs were family-building and family- 9 sustaining, allowing generations of Pennsylvanians to prosper; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, Manufacturing has steadily declined in this 12 Commonwealth and the United States, due in part to less costly 13 imported products; and 14 WHEREAS, The decline of manufacturing has led to many fewer 15 family-sustaining jobs and attendant hardships for those 16 families and the communities in which they live and work; and 17 WHEREAS, There are still manufacturers of high-quality
1 products which are made by American workers; and 2 WHEREAS, Citizens of this Commonwealth have within their 3 power the ability to affect the viability of these products by 4 making a conscious effort to "Buy American"; and 5 WHEREAS, We are entering the season of giving; therefore be 6 it 7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives implore the 8 government and the citizens of this Commonwealth to give the 9 workers of this Commonwealth and this country a holiday present 10 by making a conscious effort to put Pennsylvania first and buy 11 American-made products.
