        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 30, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Commending the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Valley Chapter,
     2     for raising awareness and funding to help those battling
     3     Alzheimer's disease through Philadelphia Memory Walk 2007, an
     4     event to be held on November 3, 2007, at Citizens Bank Park
     5     in Philadelphia.

     6     WHEREAS, Alzheimer's disease is a progressive and fatal brain
     7  disease that is the most common form of dementia, and it
     8  currently has no cure; and
     9     WHEREAS, More than 4.9 million people 65 years of age or
    10  older are living with Alzheimer's disease, and, if left
    11  unchecked, up to 16 million people could have the disease by
    12  2050; and
    13     WHEREAS, A growing number of people in their 30s, 40s and 50s
    14  will be diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease; and

     1     WHEREAS, The Alzheimer's Association is the first and largest
     2  voluntary health organization dedicated to finding prevention
     3  methods, treatments and an eventual cure for Alzheimer's
     4  disease, and it provides support for all those affected by this
     5  disease; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk is the
     7  nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for
     8  Alzheimer's disease care, support and research, with walks held
     9  in more than 600 communities throughout the year; and
    10     WHEREAS, Since 1989, Memory Walk has raised more than $225
    11  million to help those battling this condition, as the
    12  association has called on volunteers of all ages to become
    13  champions in the fight against Alzheimer's disease; and
    14     WHEREAS, Memory Walk is a noncompetitive walk, and a festive
    15  event for families, coworkers and friends of all ages; and
    16     WHEREAS, On Saturday, November 3, 2007, the Alzheimer's
    17  Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, will hold Philadelphia
    18  Memory Walk 2007 at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia;
    19  therefore be it
    20     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the staff
    21  and volunteers of the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Valley
    22  Chapter, and all those participating in and supporting
    23  Philadelphia Memory Walk 2007 for their dedication and
    24  enthusiasm in raising awareness and funding to combat
    25  Alzheimer's disease; and be it further
    26     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    27  the Alzheimer's Association, Delaware Valley Chapter
    28  Headquarters, 399 Market Street, Suite 102, Philadelphia,
    29  Pennsylvania 19106.
