A RESOLUTION 1 Reaffirming support for the United States Armed Forces and 2 condemning recent personal attacks upon General David H. 3 Petraeus by MoveOn.org. 4 WHEREAS, The United States Senate unanimously confirmed 5 General David H. Petraeus as Commanding General, Multi-National 6 Force-Iraq, by a vote of 81-0 on January 26, 2007; and 7 WHEREAS, General Petraeus graduated first in his class at the 8 United States Army Command and General Staff College; and 9 WHEREAS, General Petraeus earned a master's degree in public 10 administration and a doctoral degree in international relations 11 from Princeton University; and 12 WHEREAS, General Petraeus has served multiple combat tours in 13 Iraq, including command of the 101st Airborne Division (Air 14 Assault) during combat operations throughout the first year of 15 Operation Iraqi Freedom, which tours included both major combat
1 operations and subsequent stability and support operations; and 2 WHEREAS, General Petraeus supervised the development and 3 crafting of the United States Army and Marine Corps 4 counterinsurgency manual based in large measure on his combat 5 experience in Iraq, scholarly study and other professional 6 experiences; and 7 WHEREAS, General Petraeus has taken a solemn oath to protect 8 and defend the Constitution of the United States of America; and 9 WHEREAS, During his 35-year career, General Petraeus has 10 amassed a distinguished and unvarnished record of military 11 service to the United States as recognized by his receipt of a 12 Defense Distinguished Service Medal, two Distinguished Service 13 Medals, two Defense Superior Service Medals, four Legions of 14 Merit, the Bronze Star Medal for valor, the State Department 15 Superior Honor Award, the NATO Meritorious Service Medal and 16 other awards and medals; and 17 WHEREAS, A recent attack through a full-page advertisement in 18 the New York Times by the liberal activist group MoveOn.org 19 impugns the honor and integrity of General Petraeus and all the 20 members of the United States Armed Forces; and 21 WHEREAS, On September 26, 2007, the United States House voted 22 341-79 to express support for General Petraeus and the armed 23 forces; and 24 WHEREAS, On September 20, 2007, the United States Senate 25 voted to express the sense of the Senate by a vote of 72-25; and 26 WHEREAS, The entire Pennsylvania delegation voted in the 27 affirmative expressing their support for General Petraeus and 28 the men and women of the United States Armed Forces; therefore 29 be it 30 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives reaffirm its 20070H0449R2639 - 2 -
1 support for all the men and women of the United States Armed 2 Forces, including General David H. Petraeus, Commanding General, 3 Multi-National Force-Iraq; and be it further 4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives strongly condemn 5 any effort to attack the honor and integrity of General Petraeus 6 and all members of the United States Armed Forces; and be it 7 further 8 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives specifically 9 repudiate the unwarranted personal attack on General Petraeus by 10 the liberal activist group MoveOn.org.
