        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           OCTOBER 4, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the life and service of First Lieutenant Colby J.
     2     Umbrell, U.S. Army, 25th Infantry Division, 1st Battalion,
     3     501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th Brigade Combat Team,
     4     who died on May 3, 2007, in Musayyib, Iraq, and who
     5     courageously paid the supreme sacrifice in the service of his
     6     country.

     7     WHEREAS, First Lieutenant Colby J. Umbrell, 25th Infantry
     8  Division, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th
     9  Brigade Combat Team, died on May 3, 2007, from wounds inflicted
    10  by an improvised explosive device which detonated near his

     1  vehicle in Musayyib, Iraq; and
     2     WHEREAS, Lt. Umbrell was a resident of Doylestown and was a
     3  1999 graduate of Central Bucks East High School, where he was
     4  co-captain of the football team, a member of the track team and
     5  an outstanding leader and all-around student-athlete; and
     6     WHEREAS, Lt. Umbrell continued his studies at Wyoming
     7  Seminary and Johns Hopkins University, where he played football
     8  and graduated in 2004 with a degree in political science; and
     9     WHEREAS, Following graduation from Johns Hopkins University,
    10  he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was stationed for a year in
    11  Alaska before deploying for Iraq; and
    12     WHEREAS, Lt. Umbrell, a marathon runner and triathlete,
    13  trimmed down 50 pounds to convert himself from a defensive
    14  lineman to a parachutist and further undertook a mission to
    15  bring school supplies to children in Iraq; and
    16     WHEREAS, This gallant and uncommon man is survived by his
    17  parents, Nancy and Mark Umbrell of Doylestown, and by two
    18  brothers and a sister; and
    19     WHEREAS, For his valor and his courageous service in Iraq,
    20  and for paying the supreme sacrifice for his nation, his fellow
    21  citizens of Pennsylvania owe Lt. Umbrell immense gratitude;
    22  therefore be it
    23     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the life of
    24  First Lieutenant Colby J. Umbrell, U.S. Army, 25th Infantry
    25  Division, 1st Battalion, 501st Parachute Infantry Regiment, 4th
    26  Brigade Combat Team, who died on May 3, 2007, in Musayyib, Iraq,
    27  and who courageously paid the supreme sacrifice in the service
    28  of his country.
