        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           JUNE 5, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the month of October 2007 as "Agent Orange
     2     Recognition Month" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Beginning in 1950 and ending with troop evacuations
     4  in 1975, the Vietnam War was the longest conflict in American
     5  history; and
     6     WHEREAS, During the Vietnam War, American servicepersons
     7  displayed heroic courage and determination under some of the
     8  most difficult circumstances ever encountered in United States
     9  military history; and
    10     WHEREAS, Approximately 498,000 men and women from this
    11  Commonwealth served during the Vietnam War era, an estimated
    12  172,000 of whom directly participated in the war; and


     1     WHEREAS, According to the United States Department of
     2  Veterans Affairs, approximately 20 million gallons of Agent
     3  Orange and other herbicides were used during the Vietnam War;
     4  and
     5     WHEREAS, Thousands of Vietnam War veterans have died due to
     6  the use of Agent Orange; and
     7     WHEREAS, Thousands of veterans still suffer from cancer and
     8  other health disorders caused by exposure to Agent Orange; and
     9     WHEREAS, Veterans with health problems caused by Agent Orange
    10  live with the knowledge that genetic damage resulting from their
    11  exposure to Agent Orange may be handed down through generations;
    12  therefore be it
    13     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
    14  month of October 2007 as "Agent Orange Recognition Month" in
    15  Pennsylvania.
