        INTRODUCED BY D. EVANS, BEAR, BISHOP, CREIGHTON, GALLOWAY,
           MELIO, SIPTROTH, TANGRETTI, WATSON, WILLIAMS, HARHART,
           KIRKLAND, COX, W. KELLER, RAPP, ROSS, BARRAR, SAYLOR,
           SAINATO, GIBBONS AND JAMES, APRIL 24, 2007

        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 24, 2007

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Recognizing the week of April 30 through May 6, 2007, as
     2     "National Charter Schools Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The 117 charter schools in this Commonwealth and
     4  their nearly 60,000 students are leading an educational
     5  revolution, bringing new perspectives and innovative ideas to
     6  education for ten years; and
     7     WHEREAS, For a decade, charter schools have been exciting and
     8  innovative schools which have changed and improved educational
     9  opportunities in this Commonwealth and across the nation by
    10  giving parents more choices in their children's education; and
    11     WHEREAS, Communities oversee charter public schools, thereby
    12  empowering parents, teachers and communities to custom-design
    13  unique educational programs to increase student achievement and
    14  meet the specific needs of students; and
    15     WHEREAS, Charter public schools encourage competition and are
    16  accountable to the localities that establish them in order to


     1  foster innovation and serve as models for other public schools;
     2  therefore be it
     3     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives recognize the
     4  week of April 30 through May 6, 2007, as "National Charter
     5  Schools Week" in Pennsylvania in proud celebration of these
     6  innovative schools and, in acknowledgment of Pennsylvania's
     7  charter schools' first decade of the existence of these mission-
     8  driven local education agencies, urge parents, teachers,
     9  students and communities to support the charter public schools
    10  in this Commonwealth.
