A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of May 1 through 7, 2007, as "Free and 2 Accepted Masons Week" in Pennsylvania and May 4, 2007, 3 "Garfield Lodge No. 559 Day" in Dubois, Clearfield County. 4 WHEREAS, Freemasonry is the largest and most widely 5 established fraternal order in the world devoted to the moral 6 principles of equality and peace; and 7 WHEREAS, Freemasonry has a membership of 3.6 million people 8 in the countries of the free world, including 1.6 million 9 members in the United States and more than 125,000 in 10 Pennsylvania; and 11 WHEREAS, Many of our Founding Fathers were Free and Accepted 12 Masons, including our first president, George Washington; and 13 WHEREAS, Freemasonry in Pennsylvania dates back to 1731 in
1 Philadelphia; and 2 WHEREAS, Garfield Lodge No. 559 in DuBois, Clearfield County, 3 was constituted in 1882 and continues to instill in its members 4 the virtues of charity, benevolence, brotherly love and the 5 practice of the moral principles of life; therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the 7 week of May 1 through 7, 2007, as "Free and Accepted Masons 8 Week" in Pennsylvania and May 4, 2007, "Garfield Lodge No. 559 9 Day" in DuBois, Clearfield County.
