INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MARCH 29, 2007
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating May 19, 2007, as "Patriot Bond Day" in Pennsylvania. 2 WHEREAS, The third Saturday of May is celebrated annually as 3 "Armed Forces Day" to honor Americans serving in the Army, Navy, 4 Marines, Air Force and Coast Guard; and 5 WHEREAS, President Harry S. Truman led the effort to 6 establish a single holiday to thank and celebrate our military 7 members for their patriotic service to our country; and 8 WHEREAS, The United States Treasury Department unveiled the 9 Patriot Bond Series EE savings bond in response to the public's 10 desire to express support for our troops, and these bonds can be 11 purchased at any financial institution serving as savings bond 12 agents; and 13 WHEREAS, Moneys generated from the purchase of these bonds
1 are deposited in the Treasury's General Fund. 2 WHEREAS, The best reason to buy Patriot Bonds is to show 3 patriotism and to thank our servicemen and servicewomen, and 4 Pennsylvania residents are encouraged to purchase Patriot Bonds 5 to show support for our troops; therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in conjunction 7 with the observance of "Armed Forces Day," designate May 19, 8 2007, as "Patriot Bond Day" in Pennsylvania.
