                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     2     Statutes, providing for a special registration plate for
     3     veterans and members of United States military airborne
     4     units. and for military airborne parachutist and glider        <--
     5     units.

     6     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     7  hereby enacts as follows:
     8     Section 1.  Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
     9  Statutes is amended by adding sections A SECTION to read:         <--
    10  § 1366.  Special plates for United States military airborne
    11             units.
    12     (a)  General rule.--Upon application of any person who is a
    13  veteran of or a member of a United States military airborne
    14  unit, accompanied by a fee of $20 which shall be in addition to
    15  the annual registration fee and by such documentation as the
    16  department shall require, the department shall issue to the


     1  person a special registration plate designating the vehicle so
     2  licensed as belonging to a person who is a veteran of or a
     3  member of a United States military airborne unit. The special
     4  registration plate may be used only on a passenger car or truck
     5  with a registered gross weight of not more than 9,000 pounds.     <--
     6     (b)  Plate details.--The special registration plate shall
     7  display a set of jump wings and glider wings along with the
     8  letters "ABN" followed by a series of five digits. The first two
     9  or three digits of the five-digit series will denote the number
    10  of the division under which the person served.
    11  § 1367.  Special plates for veterans of and members of all
    12             military airborne parachutist and glider units.
    13     (a)  General rule.--Upon application of any person who is a
    14  veteran of or a member of a military airborne parachutist or
    15  glider unit, accompanied by a fee of $20 which shall be in
    16  addition to the annual registration fee and by such
    17  documentation as the department may require, the department
    18  shall issue to the person a special registration plate
    19  designating the vehicle so licensed as belonging to a person who
    20  is a veteran of or a member of a military airborne parachutist
    21  or glider unit. The special registration plate may be used only
    22  on a passenger car or a truck with a registered gross weight of
    23  not more than 10,000 pounds.
    24     (b)  Plate specifications.--The plate shall have a set of
    25  jump wings and glider wings. 10,000 POUNDS. THE DEPARTMENT SHALL  <--
    26  DESIGN AND PRODUCE THE SPECIAL REGISTRATION PLATE TO DISPLAY A
    27  SET OF JUMP WINGS AND GLIDER WINGS.
    28     (c) (B)  Definition.--As used in this section, the term        <--
    29  "veteran of or a member of a military airborne parachutist and    <--
    30  glider unit" includes UNITED STATES MILITARY AIRBORNE UNIT"       <--

     1  INCLUDES PARACHUTIST OR GLIDER UNITS, glider troopers,
     2  paratroopers, air assault troopers, Rangers, U.S. Army Special
     3  Forces, USMC Recon, U.S. Navy Seals, U.S. Air Force Special
     4  Operations, Troop Carrier Command, including glider pilots and
     5  the 160th SOAR, military personnel who satisfactorily completed
     6  the prescribed proficiency tests while assigned or attached to
     7  an airborne unit and any other military personnel determined by
     8  the department to be appropriately classified as a member of a
     9  United States military airborne parachutist or glider unit.
    10     Section 2.  This act shall take effect in 60 days.
