SENATE RESOLUTION

No. 336 Session of 2006


        INTRODUCED BY ORIE, BRIGHTBILL, SCARNATI, ERICKSON, ROBBINS,
           WOZNIAK, WAUGH, LOGAN, WONDERLING, PILEGGI, RAFFERTY,
           D. WHITE, WAGNER, REGOLA AND PIPPY, SEPTEMBER 6, 2006

        REFERRED TO VETERANS AFFAIRS AND EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS,
           SEPTEMBER 6, 2006

                            A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

     1  Memorializing the President of the United States and the United
     2     States Congress to secure all borders of this nation to
     3     protect American citizens from the dangers of unlawful
     4     invasion and illegal immigration.

     5     WHEREAS, More than 10 million undocumented aliens currently
     6  reside in the United States, or three out of every 100 people,
     7  and that population has recently begun growing by 700,000 per
     8  year; and
     9     WHEREAS, United States Border Patrol agents arrested more
    10  than 1,158,800 persons for illegal entry in fiscal year 2005;
    11  and
    12     WHEREAS, Persons illegally crossing our borders include
    13  violent criminals, drug dealers, human traffickers and
    14  terrorists with little knowledge of or respect for our laws; and
    15     WHEREAS, United States Border Patrol officers and agents made
    16  more than 56,000 seizures of illegal drugs, with a total weight
    17  of 2.2 million pounds and worth an estimated $2.62 billion, in
    18  fiscal year 2005; and

     1     WHEREAS, A porous border makes it more likely that drugs will
     2  make their way into the hands of our children and that other
     3  dangerous activity will take place; and
     4     WHEREAS, The Constitution of the United States provides for
     5  security of our borders and protection from invasion but
     6  statistics indicate that our Federal Government has not provided
     7  for secure borders; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED (the House of Representatives concurring), That the
     9  Senate of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania memorialize the
    10  President of the United States and the United States Congress to
    11  secure all borders of this nation to protect American citizens
    12  from the dangers of unlawful invasion and illegal immigration;
    13  and be it further
    14     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
    15  the President of the United States and to each member of the
    16  Pennsylvania Congressional Delegation.
