A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring that May 8 through 14, 2005, be observed as "National 2 Nursing Home Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, Skilled nursing facilities throughout the nation are 4 observing "National Nursing Home Week"; and 5 WHEREAS, The dedicated professionals who work in nursing 6 homes provide critical services in the continuum of long-term 7 care for many citizens of this Commonwealth; and 8 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania has more than 1.9 million people over 9 65 years of age, representing approximately 16% of this 10 Commonwealth's population; and 11 WHEREAS, Pennsylvania is the third oldest state in the nation 12 by percentage of those 65 years of age and older; and 13 WHEREAS, There are 82,000 frail, elderly and disabled 14 Pennsylvanians residing in this Commonwealth's 732 nursing 15 homes; and 16 WHEREAS, It is appropriate that nursing homes in this
1 Commonwealth join the nation to observe "National Nursing Home 2 Week"; therefore be it 3 RESOLVED, That the Senate declare that May 8 through 14, 4 2005, be observed as "National Nursing Home Week" in 5 Pennsylvania and urge all citizens to join in recognizing the 6 significant contributions of nursing facilities and caregivers 7 in this Commonwealth and beyond.
