INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, NOVEMBER 2, 2005
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating May 3, 2006, as "No Place for Hate Day" in 2 Pennsylvania and commending the Anti-Defamation League of the 3 Eastern Pennsylvania/Delaware Region for its outstanding 4 efforts to promote peace, brotherhood and goodwill through 5 its "No Place for Hate" program. 6 WHEREAS, The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) of the Eastern 7 Pennsylvania/Delaware Region was formed by concerned citizens 50 8 years ago to engage in ending anti-Semitism and all forms of 9 bigotry and discrimination, and its members continue today to 10 engage in anti-bias programs designed for schools, workplaces, 11 college campuses and communities; and 12 WHEREAS, A major initiative of the ADL in the Greater 13 Philadelphia area has been the "No Place for Hate" program in 14 public schools and communities to curb violence and hate crimes 15 by promoting respect for differences; and
1 WHEREAS, "No Place for Hate" programs sponsored by 2 southeastern Pennsylvania communities have taken the form of 3 candlelight vigils, surveys in middle schools and high schools, 4 panel discussions on bullying, mural art projects, formation of 5 rapid response teams, marches, speeches and a unique talent show 6 where performers presented original pieces based on the "No 7 Place for Hate" theme; and 8 WHEREAS, While ADL members are only too aware that their work 9 is far from done, they have every reason to be proud of their 10 many varied outstanding contributions to the understanding and 11 tolerance that exist today in American society, especially its 12 well-received four-year-old "No Place for Hate" program in 13 southeastern Pennsylvania; therefore be it 14 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate May 3, 15 2006, as "No Place for Hate Day" in Pennsylvania; and be it 16 further 17 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives commend the Anti- 18 Defamation League of the Eastern Pennsylvania/Delaware Region 19 for its outstanding efforts to promote peace, brotherhood and 20 goodwill through its "No Place for Hate" program.
