INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MARCH 16, 2004
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the month of March 2004 as "Read Across America 2 Month" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, The citizens of this Commonwealth stand firmly 4 committed to promoting reading as the catalyst for our students' 5 future academic success, their preparation for America's jobs of 6 the future and their ability to compete in a global economy; and 7 WHEREAS, Community involvement in public education and 8 reading activities is an important way to foster educational 9 growth among children; and 10 WHEREAS, The National Education Association's "Read Across 11 America" program has become the nation's largest reading event, 12 with millions of readers participating in a variety of reading 13 activities; and
1 WHEREAS, The National Education Association's "Read Across 2 America" program is a national celebration of Dr. Seuss's 3 birthday on March 2 which promotes reading and adult involvement 4 in the education of our children; therefore be it 5 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives, in support of 6 the National Education Association's "Read Across America" 7 program, designate the month of March 2004 as "Read Across 8 America Month" in Pennsylvania and call on the citizens of this 9 Commonwealth to make an extra effort this month to encourage 10 reading among children in celebration of reading and Dr. Seuss.
