        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           NOVEMBER 14, 2003

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Paying tribute to and honoring the life of Luis A. Ferre, former
     2  Governor of the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico.

     3     WHEREAS, Born in Ponce in 1904, Luis A. Ferre passed away on
     4  October 21, 2003, at 99 years of age; and
     5     WHEREAS, Mr. Ferre studied engineering at the Massachusetts
     6  Institute of Technology and attended the New England
     7  Conservatory of Music; and
     8     WHEREAS, A successful businessman, politician, constitutional
     9  assembly member, delegate, philanthropist, pianist and patron of
    10  the arts, Mr. Ferre founded the prostatehood New Progressive
    11  Party in 1967 and governed the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico from
    12  1969 through 1972; and
    13     WHEREAS, Mr. Ferre was known for his accessible, statesmanly
    14  manner, how well he treated others and how ably he represented
    15  Puerto Rican interest and democratic ideals; therefore be it

     1     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
     2  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania pay tribute to and honor the life
     3  of Luis A. Ferre; and be it further
     4     RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be transmitted to
     5  the family of Luis A. Ferre.
