INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, OCTOBER 14, 2003
A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of October 12 through 18, 2003, as 2 "Pennsylvania Brachial Plexus Injury Awareness Week." 3 WHEREAS, The brachial plexus is a network of nerves that 4 controls the muscles of the shoulders, arms, elbows, wrists, 5 hands and fingers; and 6 WHEREAS, Injury to the brachial plexus can cause full or 7 partial paralysis of one or both arms; and 8 WHEREAS, Stretching, tearing or other trauma can injure the 9 brachial plexus; and 10 WHEREAS, Approximately two to five of every 1,000 newborns 11 incur brachial plexus injuries during birth; and
1 WHEREAS, Many other types of accidents involving automobiles, 2 motorcycles and sporting activities also cause brachial plexus 3 injuries; therefore be it 4 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the 5 week of October 12 through 18, 2003, as "Pennsylvania Brachial 6 Plexus Injury Awareness Week."
