INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
MARCH 10, 2003
A RESOLUTION
1 Declaring March 2003 as "Irish American Heritage Month" in
2 Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, On March 17, 2003, the Irish community in this
4 Commonwealth will celebrate the occasion of the feast of the
5 glorious Apostle of Ireland, Saint Patrick; and
6 WHEREAS, "St. Patrick, Bless Our Priests and Protect our
7 Armed Forces" will be this year's theme; and
8 WHEREAS, Fleeing political, religious and racial persecution
1 in their homeland, Irish immigrants arrived on our shores
2 penniless and unwanted, yet filled with hope that America held a
3 future in which they and their children would enjoy the
4 bountiful fruits of a nation founded upon the principles of
5 liberty and justice for all; and
6 WHEREAS, In every phase of our national history, Irish
7 Americans have taken their place at the forefront in the
8 political, economic, religious, social and artistic fields; and
9 WHEREAS, Their contribution to the good and welfare of this
10 Commonwealth is immeasurable and unflinching; therefore be it
11 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare March
12 2003 to be "Irish American Heritage Month" in Pennsylvania and
13 extend its felicitations and best wishes to the Irish community
14 in this Commonwealth on this momentous occasion; and be it
15 further
16 RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be forwarded to the
17 Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern T.D., Upper Merrion Street, Dublin,
18 Ireland and Honorable Francis W. Rafferty, Pennsylvania Ancient
19 Order of Hibernians, 1341 N. Delaware Avenue, Suite 404 A,
