           TOMLINSON, WAGNER, ARMSTRONG, TARTAGLIONE, CORMAN, O'PAKE,
           PICCOLA, COSTA, WENGER, KUKOVICH, ROBBINS, MUSTO, M. WHITE,
           BOSCOLA, EARLL, BODACK, GREENLEAF, TILGHMAN, MOWERY, BELL,
           HOLL, DENT AND RHOADES, JANUARY 22, 2001

        REFERRED TO RULES AND EXECUTIVE NOMINATIONS, JANUARY 22, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Declaring the week of January 28 through February 3, 2001, as
     2     "Catholic Schools Week" in this Commonwealth.

     3     WHEREAS, Catholic schools in this Commonwealth are
     4  celebrating "Catholic Schools Week" from January 28 through
     5  February 3, 2001; and
     6     WHEREAS, Catholic elementary and secondary schools educate
     7  approximately 215,000 students annually and save State and local
     8  taxpayers more than one billion dollars each year; and
     9     WHEREAS, Catholic schools instill in young people a strong
    10  foundation of values, self-esteem, self-confidence and
    11  leadership skills; and
    12     WHEREAS, Catholic schools, in providing young people a strong
    13  foundation of values and academic skills needed in becoming
    14  responsible citizens of this Commonwealth and nation, have a
    15  dropout rate of less than 3% and a postgraduate higher education
    16  rate of 80%; therefore be it


     1     RESOLVED, That the Senate declare the week of January 28
     2  through February 3, 2001, as "Catholic Schools Week" in this
     3  Commonwealth and express congratulations and appreciation to
     4  Catholic elementary and secondary schools across this
     5  Commonwealth on the occasion of "Catholic Schools Week" in 2001.
