INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 7, 2002
A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring the support of the Pennsylvania House of 2 Representatives for Israel's defense against terrorism and 3 pursuit of peace. 4 WHEREAS, The State of Israel, founded in 1948, has long 5 sought to achieve peace with its neighbors, concluding peace 6 treaties with Egypt and Jordan and seeking a peaceful solution 7 to the conflict with the Palestinians leading to the Oslo 8 Agreement in 1993 and the Camp David Summit in the summer of 9 2000; and 10 WHEREAS, Since September 2000 the people of Israel have 11 experienced constant violence from areas under the control of 12 the Palestinian Authority; and 13 WHEREAS, The people of Israel have experienced repeated 14 terrorist attacks directed against the civilian population by 15 Palestinian terrorist groups; and
1 WHEREAS, The State of Israel is the only democratic state in 2 the Middle East and a strong and consistent ally of the United 3 States; and 4 WHEREAS, The many friends and supporters of the State of 5 Israel from all parts of this Commonwealth have joined with 6 like-minded people throughout the United States in April 2002 to 7 publicly express their support and solidarity with that country; 8 therefore be it 9 RESOLVED, That the Pennsylvania House of Representatives 10 declare that we stand with the people and the government of the 11 State of Israel as Israel defends against terrorism and pursues 12 peace.
