           STAIRS AND CASORIO, SEPTEMBER 25, 2001

        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           SEPTEMBER 25, 2001

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Commemorating October 2001 as "Westmoreland Heritage Month."

     2     WHEREAS, Westmoreland County has a rich history and is home
     3  to many significant historical sites and museums; and
     4     WHEREAS, Its citizens have helped shape national and global
     5  events since the 18th century; and
     6     WHEREAS, The Westmoreland County Historical Society and the
     7  University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg have initiated the annual
     8  Arthur St. Clair Lectureship each October to broaden public
     9  understanding of county history; and
    10     WHEREAS, The Westmoreland County Historical Society has
    11  established the Arthur St. Clair Heritage Preservation Awards
    12  presented each October; and
    13     WHEREAS, October is "National Archaeology Month," and the
    14  Westmoreland County Archaeological Society is active in
    15  discovering the buried physical record of our past; and
    16     WHEREAS, All citizens should become more knowledgeable about
    17  the history of counties in this Commonwealth; therefore be it

     1     RESOLVED, That October 2001 be commemorated as "Westmoreland
     2  Heritage Month"; and be it further
     3     RESOLVED, That Westmoreland County schools, libraries,
     4  historical sites and museums be encouraged to participate in a
     5  coordinated program of activities which feature county history.
