INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, MAY 7, 2001
A RESOLUTION 1 Urging Pennsylvanians to observe the week of May 19 through 25, 2 2001, as "National Safe Boating Week" and encouraging safe 3 boating. 4 WHEREAS, Pennsylvanians are fortunate to be the beneficiaries 5 of many beautiful waterways which accommodate a wide variety of 6 boating styles; and 7 WHEREAS, Along with this wide variety of boating 8 opportunities, there are also the opportunities for risk and 9 accident; and 10 WHEREAS, Life jackets can be the determining factor between 11 life and death in many boating accidents; and 12 WHEREAS, With approximately 80% of boating fatalities
1 occurring when the boater is not wearing a life jacket, many 2 lives could be saved each year if our boaters wore the life 3 jackets they must have on board; and 4 WHEREAS, This year's theme for "National Safe Boating Week" 5 is "Boat Smart From The Start - Wear Your Life Jacket" in 6 recognition of the importance of basic boating safety; and 7 WHEREAS, Educational courses in safe boating and in 8 navigation rules are available through the Pennsylvania Fish and 9 Boat Commission, United States Coast Guard Auxiliary and the 10 United States Power Squadrons to help ensure boating safety; 11 therefore be it 12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives urge all 13 Pennsylvanians to observe the week of May 19 through 25, 2001, 14 as "National Safe Boating Week" and encourage all boaters to 15 increase their knowledge of boating and acquire the skills 16 necessary to "boat smart" at all times.
