INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35, SEPTEMBER 19, 2000
A RESOLUTION 1 Declaring the month of October 2000 as "Archaeology Month" in 2 Pennsylvania 3 WHEREAS, The history of Pennsylvania is represented in the 4 celebration of "Archaeology Month" as a time to focus on the 5 artifacts that have been left in the earth for scientists, 6 explorers, citizens and school children to learn what life was 7 like more than 30,000 years ago in this Commonwealth; and 8 WHEREAS, Our Commonwealth has almost 18,000 recorded 9 archaeological sites and provides a living classroom for study; 10 and 11 WHEREAS, Excellent archaeology-related programs are being 12 conducted at the Buckaloons Site in the Allegheny National 13 Forest and during the celebration of the Sixth Annual 14 Archaeology Month on City Island in Harrisburg; and 15 WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission
1 with the Society for Pennsylvania Archaeology and the 2 Pennsylvania Archaeological Council joins with Federal and State 3 officials to encourage educational and public outreach in the 4 recognition of the importance of archaeology to the citizens of 5 this Commonwealth; therefore be it 6 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives declare the month 7 of October 2000 as "Archaeology Month" in Pennsylvania.
