        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 14, 2000

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring Warren County, Pennsylvania, on the occasion of its
     2     200th anniversary in 2000.

     3     WHEREAS, In 1795, the town of Warren, in present-day Warren
     4  County, was laid out by the commissioners of the Commonwealth;
     5  and
     6     WHEREAS, On March 12, 1800, an act of the General Assembly
     7  disassembled land from Allegheny, Lycoming, Westmoreland and
     8  Washington Counties, and established the new counties of
     9  Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Crawford, Erie, Mercer, Warren and
    10  Venango; and
    11     WHEREAS, Due to the sparse settlements in northwestern
    12  Pennsylvania at that time, Erie, Mercer, Venango and Warren
    13  Counties were grouped under Crawford County for administrative
    14  and judicial purposes and Warren County established its own
    15  identity as a separate county in 1819; and
    16     WHEREAS, Warren County was named to honor the life of General
    17  Joseph Warren, who was a distinguished patriot; and


     1     WHEREAS, General Warren fought in the American Revolution and
     2  was killed in the battle of Bunker Hill on June 17, 1775; and
     3     WHEREAS, This year Warren County celebrates the 200th
     4  anniversary of its establishment; therefore be it
     5     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor Warren
     6  County, Pennsylvania, on the occasion of its 200th anniversary
     7  in 2000.
