A RESOLUTION 1 Observing the week of November 21 through 27, 1999, as "National 2 Family Week" in Pennsylvania. 3 WHEREAS, As individuals, we find in our families a sense of 4 identity, purpose and security; as a nation, we find in our 5 families the vision and strength we need to remain a truly free 6 and just society; and 7 WHEREAS, A family is a group of individuals related by blood, 8 marriage or adoption as well as a community of persons united by 9 their love and commitment to one another, and it is through 10 family life that our nation's most cherished values and
1 traditions are passed from one generation to the next; and 2 WHEREAS, Through our experiences as members of a family, we 3 learn important lessons about love and faith, duty and fidelity, 4 personal responsibility and concern for others; and 5 WHEREAS, Because these lessons are conveyed to the community 6 at large and because the family gives us a model of human 7 relationships after which all other social institutions are 8 fashioned, the strength and integrity of the family are vital to 9 our well-being as a nation and as a State; and 10 WHEREAS, Families are the fundamental cornerstone of human 11 society, providing models for caring from birth through the 12 aging years and inspiring celebration and renewal; and 13 WHEREAS, Families need and deserve recognition, encouragement 14 and support for the daily miracles they perform; and 15 WHEREAS, Each of our communities has the ability to empower 16 and enhance family strength and potential; and 17 WHEREAS, Thanksgiving week is a traditional time to recognize 18 the important role of families in strengthening our communities; 19 therefore be it 20 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives observe the week 21 of November 21 through 27, 1999, as "National Family Week" in 22 Pennsylvania and call upon all citizens, government agencies, 23 public and private institutions and businesses to mark this week 24 with appropriate ceremonies and programs in appreciation of our 25 communities' families.
