        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           APRIL 20, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating June 6, 1999, as "Cancer Survivors Day" in
     2     Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, More than 8.2 million cancer survivors live in the
     4  United States; and
     5     WHEREAS, There continue to be advances in early detection,
     6  treatment and research relating to cancer; and
     7     WHEREAS, Many Americans face barriers that prohibit them from
     8  equal access to cancer care, detection and treatment; and
     9     WHEREAS, "National Cancer Survivors Day" is a celebration of

     1  life and is intended to draw attention and public awareness to
     2  the problems of cancer patients; and
     3     WHEREAS, The 12th annual "National Cancer Survivors Day" is
     4  being observed throughout the United States on June 6, 1999; and
     5     WHEREAS, This special event helps to unite cancer survivors,
     6  their families, friends and the health care community in a bond
     7  of strength and determination; therefore be it
     8     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate June 6,
     9  1999, as "Cancer Survivors Day" in Pennsylvania.
