        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 17, 1999

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Honoring the career accomplishments of Joe DiMaggio on the
     2     occasion of his death on March 8, 1999.

     3     WHEREAS, On November 25, 1914, Joseph P. DiMaggio was born in
     4  Martinez, California; and
     5     WHEREAS, Joe DiMaggio was one of the most gifted batters in
     6  professional baseball's history and is best known for his streak
     7  of safely batting in 56 consecutive games in 1941; and
     8     WHEREAS, Joe DiMaggio had a 13-year professional baseball
     9  career with the New York Yankees, retiring from that team in
    10  1951; and
    11     WHEREAS, Joe DiMaggio won three American League Most Valuable

     1  Player awards, appeared in 11 All-Star games and was inducted
     2  into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1955; and
     3     WHEREAS, Joe DiMaggio died of cancer on March 8, 1999;
     4  therefore be it
     5     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives honor the career
     6  accomplishments of Joe DiMaggio on the occasion of his death on
     7  March 8, 1999.
