                                     AN ACT

     1  Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
     2     act relating to the public school system, including certain
     3     provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
     4     schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
     5     laws relating thereto," further providing for Commonwealth
     6     reimbursements for vocational-technical programs; and making
     7     an appropriation.

     8     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     9  hereby enacts as follows:
    10     Section 1.  Section 2508.4 of the act of March 10, 1949
    11  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949, added
    12  August 14, 1963 (P.L.30, No.14), is amended to read:
    13     Section 2508.4.  Payments on Account of Improvements and
    14  Additions in Vocational-Technical Curriculums.--Every high
    15  school offering eight or more approved vocational-technical
    16  programs, including two in trade and industrial education and
    17  any area vocational board operating an approved program of


     1  vocational or technical education in its own or rented space
     2  shall be paid by the Commonwealth for every school year on
     3  account of approved replacement, updating and improvement of
     4  equipment and on account of approved new or additional equipment
     5  up to fifty per cent of the cost of such improvements and
     6  additions. To ensure that equipment meets industry standards and
     7  enables students to achieve competency standards required by
     8  industry, only equipment acquisitions which have been
     9  recommended by advisory committees will be eligible for
    10  reimbursement.
    11     Section 2.  The sum of $10,000,000, or as much thereof as may
    12  be necessary, is hereby appropriated to the Department of
    13  Education for the fiscal year July 1, 1999, to June 30, 2000,
    14  for the purpose of vocational-technical curriculum
    15  reimbursements under section 2508.4 of the act of March 10, 1949
    16  (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of 1949.
    17     Section 3.  This act shall take effect July 1, 1999.
