A RESOLUTION
1 Recognizing March 1998 as "National Women's History Month" and
2 March 8, 1998, as "International Women's Day" in
3 Pennsylvania.
4 WHEREAS, An unbiased look at women's role in history clearly
5 shows that thousands of women did not suffer from lack of
6 courage, commitment or conviction; and
7 WHEREAS, Since the formation of the American colonies,
8 thousands of Pennsylvania women have been in the forefront for
9 the benefit of all generations to come; and
10 WHEREAS, By telling history in ways to include and appreciate
11 the accomplishments and stories of women who made a difference,
12 a treasure chest of historical information can be opened to
1 benefit all who read it; and
2 WHEREAS, Dispelling the stereotypes helps to teach people of
3 all ages that limited roles typically ascribed to women are no
4 longer acceptable; and
5 WHEREAS, Women have played integral roles in all aspects of
6 Pennsylvania and United States history since before the American
7 Revolution; and
8 WHEREAS, Leadership, steadfastness and creativity are
9 embodied in the business and social acumen demonstrated by women
10 as we have moved along the path of progress toward the 21st
11 century; and
12 WHEREAS, In 1989 the Congress of the United States declared
13 the month of March as "National Women's History Month"; and
14 WHEREAS, Since the turn of the century, March 8th has been
15 observed as "International Women's Day"; therefore be it
16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives acknowledge March
17 1998 as "National Women's History Month" and March 8, 1998, as
18 "International Women's Day," and urge all citizens to join in a
19 celebration of the heritage of women and to observe this month
20 and day with appropriate programs, ceremonies and activities.
