     1 Designating the week of November 23 through 29, 1997, as
     2 "Christian Heritage Week" in Pennsylvania.

     3 WHEREAS, We each have been richly blessed by the Almighty

     6  independent nation; and
     7 WHEREAS, George Washington, the acknowledged father of our
     8 country, has been documented as having said: "...we ought to be
     9 no less persuaded that the propitious smiles of heaven can never
    10 be expected on a nation that disregards the eternal rules of
    11 order and right which Heaven itself has ordained,"; and
    12 WHEREAS, Our Christian heritage is recognized in the writings
    13 and accomplishments of such individuals as William Bradford,

     1 John and Abigail Adams, James Madison, Patrick Henry, Andrew
     2 Jackson, Abraham Lincoln, Woodrow Wilson, Harry S. Truman,
     3 Dwight D. Eisenhower, and countless others, and in the
     4 Constitutions of the several sovereign states and innumerable
     5 public documents and utterances; and
     6 WHEREAS, The importance of our Christian heritage to the
     7  institutions, values and vision of our nation is immeasurable;
     8  and
     9 WHEREAS, Our Christian heritage is further reflected by our
    10 people and our leaders, past and present, in our individual and
    11 collective efforts as a nation of peacekeepers and peacemakers
    12 to provide for our people, both in America and abroad, by
    13 providing humanitarian assistance to our fellow men, women and
    14  children; and
    15 WHEREAS, It is entirely appropriate to recognize the
    16 Pilgrim's First Thanksgiving for God's Providence as a special
    17  time and reason for celebrating our nation's Christian heritage;
    18  therefore be it
    19 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate the
    20 week of November 23 through 29, 1997, as "Christian Heritage
