AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, conferring certain duties on the insurer.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. Section 1786(e)(2) of Title 75 of the
6 Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
7 § 1786. Required financial responsibility.

9 (e) Obligations upon termination of financial
10 responsibility.--

12 (2) An insurer who has issued a contract of motor
13 vehicle liability insurance, or any approved self-insurance
14 entity, shall notify the department in a timely manner and in
15 a method prescribed by the department's regulations. Further,
16 it is the responsibility of the insurer to notify the vehicle
17 owner in writing that State law requires that the
1 registration and license plates of the vehicle be surrendered
2 to the department at the time the insurance coverage is
3 terminated or financial responsibility lapsed.
