A RESOLUTION 1 Designating the week of September 24 through 30, 1995, as "Voter 2 Awareness Week." 3 WHEREAS, A democracy is dependent upon an educated, informed 4 and active electorate; and 5 WHEREAS, Fifty million people in the United States are 6 eligible to vote but are unregistered; and 7 WHEREAS, The percentage of Americans voting has declined 8 steadily in the past 30 years, and voter apathy is cited as the 9 greatest contributing factor; and 10 WHEREAS, A voter awareness day places special emphasis on the 11 importance of voting and registering to vote; therefore be it 12 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives proclaim the week 13 of September 24 through 30, 1995, as "Voter Awareness Week."
