        INTRODUCED AS NONCONTROVERSIAL RESOLUTION UNDER RULE 35,
           MARCH 21, 1995

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Designating the week of April 24 through 28, 1995, as "Week of
     2     the Young Child" in Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, The "Week of the Young Child" is an annual
     4  celebration each April, sponsored by the National Association
     5  for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), the nation's
     6  largest organization of early childhood professionals; and
     7     WHEREAS, The purpose of the "Week of the Young Child" is to
     8  focus public attention on the needs of young children and their
     9  families and to support the programs and services that meet
    10  those needs; and
    11     WHEREAS, The NAEYC first established the "Week of the Young
    12  Child" in 1971, recognizing that the early childhood years lay


     1  the foundation for children's success in school and later life;
     2  and
     3     WHEREAS, The "Week of the Young Child" is a time to focus on
     4  the needs of young children and families and to plan how all
     5  citizens of the community, state and nation can better meet the
     6  needs of all young children and their families; and
     7     WHEREAS, This year's theme is "Early Years are Learning
     8  Years...WE Make Them Count"; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
    10  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania hereby designate the week of April
    11  24 through 28, 1995, as "Week of the Young Child" in
    12  Pennsylvania. early childhood professionals; and
    13     WHEREAS, The purpose of the "Week of the Young Child" is to
