AN ACT 1 Amending Title 66 (Public Utilities) of the Pennsylvania 2 Consolidated Statutes, further regulating meter reading. 3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 4 hereby enacts as follows: 5 Section 1. Section 1504 of Title 66 of the Pennsylvania 6 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read: 7 § 1504. Standards of service and facilities. 8 The commission may, after reasonable notice and hearing, upon 9 its own motion or upon complaint: 10 (1) Prescribe as to service and facilities, including 11 the crossing of facilities, just and reasonable standards, 12 classifications, regulations and practices to be furnished, 13 imposed, observed and followed by any or all public 14 utilities. 15 (2) Prescribe adequate and reasonable standards for the 16 measurement of quantity, quality, pressure, initial voltage 17 or other condition pertaining to the supply of the service of
1 any and all public utilities. 2 (3) Prescribe reasonable regulations for the examination 3 and testing of such service, and for the measurement thereof. 4 (4) Prescribe or approve reasonable rules, regulations, 5 specifications and standards to secure the accuracy of all 6 meters and appliances for measurement. Any utility company 7 that installs in its customers' homes an automatic meter 8 reading system, which utilizes a telephone network and the 9 customer's telephone to obtain a meter reading, shall also 10 offer its customers the option of using a traditional 11 metering system consisting of a meter that is read by an 12 individual. 13 (5) Provide for the examination and testing of any and 14 all appliances used for the measurement of any service of any 15 public utility. 16 Section 2.
