                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Amending House Resolution No. 50, adopted March 30, 1993,
     2     entitled "A resolution directing the Education Committee of
     3     the House of Representatives to conduct a comprehensive
     4     review of vocational education programs," extending the
     5     period for the filing of the committee's report.

     6     RESOLVED, That House Resolution No. 50, adopted March 30,
     7  1993, be amended to read:
     8                            A RESOLUTION
     9  Directing the Education Committee of the House of
    10     Representatives to conduct a comprehensive review of
    11     vocational education programs.
    12     WHEREAS, Vocational education programs are an important
    13  component of Pennsylvania's diverse public educational system,
    14  financed each year by hundreds of millions of dollars in funding
    15  from Federal, State and school district resources; and
    16     WHEREAS, Pennsylvania's future workforce needs likely will
    17  require a larger number of citizens who have vocational skills
    18  which can be acquired or improved through available public-
    19  funded vocational education programs; and

     1     WHEREAS, There are increasingly varied approaches to prepare
     2  citizens of all ages for employment and career opportunities
     3  requiring specific vocational skills; therefore be it
     4     RESOLVED, That the Education Committee of the House of
     5  Representatives is directed to conduct a comprehensive Statewide
     6  review and investigation of vocation education programs in
     7  Pennsylvania; and be it further
     8     RESOLVED, That the Education Committee may hold hearings,
     9  take testimony and make its review and investigations at such
    10  places as it deems necessary in this Commonwealth. The chairman
    11  of the committee shall have the power to administer oaths and
    12  affirmations to witnesses appearing before the committee; and be
    13  it further
    14     RESOLVED, That the Education Committee shall review the
    15  current status of vocational education programs and consider
    16  methods to strengthen the Commonwealth's vocational education
    17  program system and enhance vocational education opportunities
    18  for residents of this Commonwealth; and be it further
    19     RESOLVED, That the Education Committee shall report its
    20  findings and recommendations to the full House no later than
    21  [April] June 30, 1994.
