AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, requiring child bicycle riders to wear helmets.
3 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
4 hereby enacts as follows:
5 Section 1. Title 75 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
6 Statutes is amended by adding a section to read:
7 § 3510.1. Pedalcycle helmets for children.
8 (a) General rule.--It shall be unlawful for any person under
9 18 years of age to ride a pedalcycle without wearing a helmet
10 meeting the standards of the American National Standards
11 Institute or of the Snell Memorial Foundation's Standards for
12 Protective Headgear for Use in Bicycling.
13 (b) Penalty.--A violation of subsection (a) constitutes a
14 summary offense punishable by a fine of $25, which shall be paid
15 by the person cited or by his parent or guardian.
16 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
