A RESOLUTION 1 Proclaiming the month of June 1992 as "Rivers Month" and the 2 week of June 1 through 7, 1992, as "West Branch Susquehanna 3 Sojourn Week" in Pennsylvania. 4 WHEREAS, June 1992 has been celebrated as "Rivers Month" in 5 Pennsylvania and throughout the Nation; and 6 WHEREAS, The West Branch of the Susquehanna River has great 7 significance in human history, Native American culture, early 8 American culture and the timber industry; and 9 WHEREAS, The West Branch of the Susquehanna River contributes 10 immensely to the scenic beauty and ecological well-being of this 11 Commonwealth, providing water sports and recreation and 12 contributing to wetland and river corridor wildlife; and 13 WHEREAS, The West Branch of the Susquehanna River has a great 14 impact on the Chesapeake Bay, into which it empties, and 15 ultimately on the bay restoration effort; and 16 WHEREAS, During the week of June 1 through 7, a seven-day
1 river canoe "float" will take place from North Bend to 2 Northumberland, its purpose being to accentuate and celebrate 3 the West Branch of the Susquehanna River; and 4 WHEREAS, Stewardship of such a great natural treasure is both 5 a duty and an honor to be undertaken with pride and zealous 6 effort; therefore be it 7 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives proclaim the 8 month of June 1992 as "Rivers Month" and the week of June 1 9 through 7, 1992, as "West Branch Susquehanna Sojourn Week" in 10 Pennsylvania and urge all citizens to join together to conserve 11 and protect the river as a resource and to rediscover the beauty 12 and opportunities the river offers for recreational and 13 educational adventure by becoming involved with "riverwork" 14 through citizens groups, school groups, environmental 15 organizations and sporting associations.
