AN ACT
1 Amending Title 71 (State Government) of the Pennsylvania
2 Consolidated Statutes, further defining "correction officer"
3 for purposes of the State Employees' Retirement Code.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. The definition of "correction officer" in section
7 5102 of Title 71 of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes is
8 amended to read:
9 § 5102. Definitions.
10 The following words and phrases as used in this part, unless
11 a different meaning is plainly required by the context, shall
12 have the following meanings:

14 "Correction officer." Any full-time employee [whose
15 principal duty is the] assigned to the Department of Corrections
16 or the Department of Public Welfare who is vested by written
17 policy or through routine practice with the responsibility for
18 the direct care, custody and control of inmates of a penal or
1 correctional institution [or], community treatment center,
2 forensic unit in a State hospital or secure unit of a youth
3 development center operated by the [Bureau of Correction.]
4 Department of Corrections or by the Department of Public
5 Welfare. The term includes, but is not limited to, the following
6 classifications: correctional counselor, drug and alcohol
7 treatment specialist, psychological services associate,
8 psychologist, social worker and youth development counselor.
