AN ACT 1 Amending the act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), entitled 2 "An act relating to counties of the third, fourth, fifth, 3 sixth, seventh and eighth classes; amending, revising, 4 consolidating and changing the laws relating thereto," 5 conferring the powers of police officers on sheriffs and 6 their deputies. 7 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania 8 hereby enacts as follows: 9 Section 1. The act of August 9, 1955 (P.L.323, No.130), 10 known as The County Code, is amended by adding a section to 11 read: 12 Section 1216. Police Power of Sheriffs and Deputies.--(a) 13 Sheriffs and duly appointed deputy sheriffs who are in 14 compliance with the provisions of the act of February 9, 1984 15 (P.L.3, No.2), known as the "Deputy Sheriffs' Education and 16 Training Act," shall, during their terms of office or 17 appointment, possess and exercise the powers of police officers 18 of this Commonwealth within the county for which they are 19 elected or appointed, and beyond the limits of the county when
1 they are in fresh pursuit of an offender. 2 (b) The keepers of jails and other places of detention in a 3 county shall receive all persons arrested by sheriffs and their 4 deputies for the purpose of detention until they are dealt with 5 according to law. 6 Section 2.
