           YANDRISEVITS, KENNEDY, BELARDI, BOWSER AND KENNEY, JUNE 29,

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Proclaiming June 29, 1987, as "Peace Child Day" in the
     2     Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.

     3     WHEREAS, Peace Child is a musical play written by David
     4  Woolcombe and based on The Peace Book by Bernard Benson; and
     5     WHEREAS, Peace Child has entertained thousands of people
     6  around the world while instilling hope and encouraging people to
     7  believe they can do something meaningful for peace in the world.
     8  The production also provides children with an opportunity to act
     9  out their deepest fears and hopes; and
    10     WHEREAS, Peace Child takes place in a future time when world
    11  peace exists. Celebrating an annual "Peace Day," the children of
    12  this future reenact the events of the 1980's in a fantasy
    13  flashback to our own present day, when American and Soviet
    14  children discovered they could be friends and made it their
    15  mission to build understanding and friendship between their
    16  leaders as well. The play examines the arms race and offers the

     1  hope that one day, through mutual trust and appreciation, the
     2  superpowers can stop threatening each other with destruction;
     3  and
     4     WHEREAS, This summer approximately 60 American youths,
     5  including six from Pennsylvania, will form three separate
     6  touring companies of Peace Child and will visit the Soviet Union
     7  and Poland. Pennsylvania is proud to be an active part in this
     8  musical and its strides toward world peace; therefore be it
     9     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives of the
    10  Commonwealth of Pennsylvania proclaim June 29, 1987, as "Peace
    11  Child Day" in this Commonwealth and urge all citizens to strive
    12  for world peace and to recognize the outstanding efforts of
    13  these children.
