           J. L. WRIGHT, CESSAR, BOWSER, MRKONIC, SAURMAN, MAINE, ITKIN,
           MERRY, WESTON, LANGTRY, FARGO, CIMINI AND JACKSON,
           FEBRUARY 9, 1987

        ADOPTED, FEBRUARY 9, 1987

                                  A RESOLUTION

     1  Proclaiming the week of February 9 through 15, 1987, as "Child
     2     Passenger Safety Week."

     3     WHEREAS, The health and well-being of children is everyone's
     4  greatest concern and more children in Pennsylvania are seriously
     5  and fatally injured while riding in motor vehicles than from any
     6  disease or other type of accident; and
     7     WHEREAS, Observational surveys in Pennsylvania have shown
     8  that fewer than 60% of children under four years of age are
     9  protected by safely constructed child car seats; and
    10     WHEREAS, The proper use of safe child car seats and seat
    11  belts by all children would almost eliminate the chance of
    12  serious or fatal injury in the sudden stop or crash of a car;
    13  and
    14     WHEREAS, State law now requires that safety restraints or
    15  seat belts be used when children under four years of age are
    16  being transported; and
    17     WHEREAS, The Pennsylvania Child Passenger Safety Project

     1  annually observes Child Passenger Safety Week the last week in
     2  February; therefore be it
     3     RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives proclaim the week
     4  of February 9 through 15, 1987, as "Child Passenger Safety
     5  Week," and urge all citizens of Pennsylvania to be child safety
     6  conscious and to use seat belts and car seats for their
     7  children.
