        SENATOR TILGHMAN, APPROPRIATIONS, IN SENATE, RE-REPORTED AS
           AMENDED, OCTOBER 5, 1987

                                     AN ACT

     1  Providing for the designation of certain trees and land on the
     2     grounds of the State Capitol in Harrisburg as "Soldiers'
     3     Grove" in honor of war veterans; and imposing duties upon the  <--
     4     Department of General Services; AND MAKING AN APPROPRIATION.   <--

     5     The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
     6  hereby enacts as follows:
     7  Section 1.  Designation of area as "Soldiers' Grove."
     8     The growth of trees and the area in which they are growing
     9  lying between the Forum Building and the Finance Building on the
    10  grounds of the State Capitol in Harrisburg shall on and after
    11  the effective date of this act be known as "Soldiers' Grove."
    12  Section 2.  Duties of Department of General Services.
    13     (a)  Marking of trees.--The Department of General Services

     1  shall mark the ten largest trees growing in the area that is to
     2  be designated "Soldiers' Grove."
     3     (b)  Plaques.--
     4         (1)  The department shall arrange for the fabrication of
     5     nine appropriate bronze plaques in honor of veterans of the
     6     following:
     7             (i)  The American Revolutionary War.
     8             (ii)  The War of 1812.
     9             (iii)  The Mexican-American War.
    10             (iv)  The American Civil War.
    11             (v)  The Spanish-American War.
    12             (vi)  World War I.
    13             (vii)  World War II.
    14             (viii)  The Korean War.
    15             (ix)  The Vietnam Conflict.
    16         (2)  The department shall also arrange for the
    17     fabrication of an appropriate bronze plaque to honor the
    18     unknown veterans of the wars and conflicts enumerated in
    19     paragraph (1).
    20     (c)  Placement of plaques.--The department shall affix the
    21  plaques provided for in subsection (b) to granite plinths. A
    22  plaque shall be placed in close proximity to each of the trees
    23  marked under subsection (a), and an appropriate inscription
    24  shall be mounted on each tree declaring that the tree is
    25  dedicated to veterans of a war or conflict.
    26  Section 3.  Time for completion.
    27     The Department of General Services shall complete the duties
    28  imposed upon it by section 2 in sufficient time to allow for
    29  dedication of "Soldiers' Grove" on May 25, 1987 NOVEMBER 11,      <--

     1  SECTION 4.  APPROPRIATION.
     2     THE SUM OF $25,000, OR AS MUCH THEREOF AS MAY BE NECESSARY,
     3  IS HEREBY APPROPRIATED TO THE DEPARTMENT OF GENERAL SERVICES TO
     4  CARRY OUT THE PURPOSES OF THIS ACT.
     5  Section 4 5.  Effective date.                                     <--
     6     This act shall take effect immediately.
